Iranian woman sentenced to death for posting pictures of naked men on social media

A Iranian woman has been sentenced to a maximum of 10 years in prison after posting a photo of her breasts online.

A court in the capital Tehran on Friday sentenced the 26-year-old blogger, who has since been detained by police, to a total of seven years in jail for “defiling” Islamic values.

The woman, whose name was not released by authorities, was detained last month when she posted pictures of her body on social networking sites.

Her lawyer said in an online video that the images showed “unhealthy sexual relations.”

The case was the latest example of Iranian women’s rights activists in the country facing the wrath of authorities for the conduct of their activities online.

The latest incident comes amid growing calls for the country to implement more stringent laws to combat the spread of sexually explicit content online.

Last year, Tehran’s prosecutor general, Mohammad Bagheri, ordered the detention of an Iranian woman, who is a blogger and is believed to be one of the country’s most prominent women bloggers.

The case has been viewed as a watershed in the campaign for women’s freedom.
